What Ingredients Actually Make Teeth Whiter?

There’s a lot of other teeth whitening formulas out there, and figuring out what ingredients really work can be harder than solving algebra or working out what your ex meant by that 3 am text message…

In our previous blog, we talked about what makes teeth whitening work and the active ingredient that makes our formula so effective! There’s a lot of other teeth whitening formulas out there, and figuring out what ingredients really work can be harder than solving algebra or working out what your ex meant by that 3 am text message…

Luckily, our whitening formula is simpler than your situationship, so we’re here to break down the different active ingredients that tooth whitening products use – and prove why our formula is the best!

PAP

Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid (PAP for short) is a recently discovered ingredient in the tooth whitening market – though it has been used in the laundry industry for years. It is a peroxide-free acid which works to brighten the enamel by altering the colour of the molecules that form stains left behind by beverages like coffee and wine.

PAP is gaining popularity as a peroxide-free alternative to traditional tooth whitening ingredients, however because the ingredient is so new, there’s not as much research proving the effectiveness of PAP in comparison to ingredients like our hydrogen peroxide formula which has decades of research to back it up. Hydrogen peroxide has been used in tooth whitening since the 1980s and is proven to work to make the teeth whiter!

Carbamide Peroxide

Carbamide peroxide is a popular active ingredient in tooth whitening formulas. Most whitening companies use a 16% carbamide peroxide formula for their products.

Whilst carbamide peroxide might sound like a different ingredient, it actually produces hydrogen peroxide which is what causes the tooth whitening – so carbamide peroxide formulas are really hydrogen peroxide!

Carbamide peroxide is 3x weaker than hydrogen peroxide, meaning a whitening formula that uses carbamide peroxide would need to contain an 18% carbamide concentration to match the strength of our 6% hydrogen peroxide formula.

That’s why our whitening gel is one of the strongest formulas on the market!

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in our whitening formula. We use a concentration of 6% – the strongest concentration that is allowed to be sold in the UK! Our ultra-strength whitening formula works by oxidizing stains to lighten the colour of your enamel, creating bright white teeth! We’ve chosen hydrogen peroxide because it’s been backed up by decades of study and is proven to work. Hydrogen peroxide has been giving patients beautiful results for almost 50 years.

We wanted to choose an ingredient that gave our patients a stunning smile every time!
